Data analysis
Know what's wrong with your data before you move it
Point Morph at a CSV, a file in Google Drive, a connected system's records or a rule's output. It reads every row and reports each problem as Must fix, Worth a look or Good to know, shows you the rows behind it and the fix, and turns the report into a draft rule.
What you can analyse
Wherever the data is now
A CSV file
Upload a CSV export from anywhere. Morph detects the separator and the encoding, or you choose them.
A file in Google Drive
Pick a CSV stored in your Google Drive, without downloading it first.
A connected system
Choose a connection and a kind of record (invoices, contacts, customers) from Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, Sage 200, NetSuite, Odoo, HubSpot, Zoho or Salesforce, with a filter if you only want some.
A rule's output
Check what a rule produced: open a finished run in your Activity feed and choose Analyse output.
What it checks
The problems that break an import
Each finding says how many values it affects, shows up to 10 examples, and where it can, how much money they add up to.
The shape of the file
Rows with too many or too few columns, blank rows, duplicate rows, missing or repeated headers.
Types and formats
Dates written three ways, month-first dates, amounts with currency symbols, codes that would lose their leading zeros, numbers already turned into scientific notation.
What's missing
Empty values (N/A, NULL and dashes count as empty), placeholder text such as TBC or unknown, and columns with nothing in them.
Duplicates
Keys that should be unique and are not, columns that never change, columns that repeat another.
Values that look wrong
Dates in the future or far in the past, negative amounts, outliers, truncated text, the same value in different cases.
Characters
Garbled characters from the wrong encoding, stray spaces, invisible characters, smart quotes and line breaks inside values.
Across columns
A due date before the date raised, totals that do not add up, and the column most likely to join to another system.
Personal data
Emails, phone numbers, bank details, national ID and card numbers, flagged and masked in the report.
From report to rule
Every finding comes with its fix
Sorted by what matters
The report opens with a verdict, then the findings as Must fix, Worth a look and Good to know, and the columns that are perfectly clean.
A draft rule in one click
Each finding has a fix button: trim spaces, reformat dates, remove duplicates. Build it myself turns the report into a draft rule with the source already set up, ready for you to review.
Murphy, for what you need
On the paid plans, tell Murphy what the data is for (loading it into another system, sending it to someone, a regular report) and it ranks the findings for that and builds the draft with you.
See it get better. Analyse the same source again after a clean-up and compare the two reports: what was fixed, what is new, and what got worse or better.
Your data stays yours
A report, not a copy of your data
Nothing kept but the report
An uploaded file is deleted once it has been analysed, and records read from a system are only held while the analysis runs. The report keeps statistics and a few example rows per finding.
Personal data masked
Columns holding emails, phone numbers or bank details are masked in the report. You can reveal one column at a time, and each reveal is recorded.

FAQ
Questions about data analysis
How many analyses do I get?
Analyses have their own monthly count: 5 on Free, 25 on Starter, 60 on Pro, 150 on Team and 400 on Business, shared across an organisation. They never use your data allowance, so an account at its data cap can still analyse. Only a finished report counts: one that fails is free.
Does Morph look at every row?
Yes. The numbers in the report come from the whole file or record set, not a sample, up to your plan's largest file (2 MB on Free up to 200 MB on Business) and 2,000 columns.
Which files can I analyse?
CSV files, uploaded or stored in Google Drive, as well as a connected system's records and the output of your own rules. Excel workbooks are not analysed yet: save the sheet as CSV first.
What does Morph keep from my data?
The report: statistics about each column and up to 10 example rows for each finding. An uploaded file is deleted as soon as it has been analysed, and records read from a system are only held while the analysis runs. A report stays until you delete it.
Does Murphy see my data?
Murphy, on the paid plans, works from the report. By default it sees column names, types, statistics and the shape of example values (PAID becomes AAAA), never the values themselves. You can let it see real values, but columns holding personal data stay masked either way.
Can I share a report?
A report is yours until you file it in a project, which shares it with the project's members. You can copy a link to it, or export it as a single HTML file that holds the report and not the rows behind it, with the personal-data columns left out if you choose.
