Getting started · Lesson 2 of 5

Your first rule from a CSV file

Create a rule, give it a name, and point it at a CSV or Excel file. Morph reads the columns for you.

The comic

  1. Panel 1 of 4.

    Step one

Murphy says: Open “Rules” and choose “New Rule”. Morph asks for just a name and, if you like, a description. Then “Save & Continue”.
  2. Panel 2 of 4.
Murphy says: The canvas opens. The first box, “Data Source”, asks how data comes in. Choose “File” to upload a CSV (a spreadsheet saved as plain text) or an Excel file.
  3. Panel 3 of 4.
Murphy says: Drop your file in. Morph reads the header row and tells you how many fields and rows it found. See those gaps and odd dates? We'll fix them soon.
  4. Panel 4 of 4.
Murphy says: A file rule reads CSV, TSV, text and Excel files (.xlsx, .xlsm, .xls). It remembers the columns, so next month's file with the same columns goes through the same way.
