Connecting systems · Lesson 2 of 5

Read from a system, write to a system

Pull records like invoices or contacts into a rule, and send the cleaned result straight into another system.

The comic

  1. Panel 1 of 4.

    Reading

Murphy says: In “Data Source”, choose “Integrations” and pick your connection. The “Data Type” picker lists what you can read, like Xero's Invoices, Contacts or Payments.
  2. Panel 2 of 4.
Murphy says: Choose “Import from Xero” to bring in the fields. Then add steps exactly as you would with a file.
  3. Panel 3 of 4.

    Writing

Murphy says: To write, set the output's “Destination” to a system, such as QuickBooks, HubSpot, NetSuite or Odoo. Then map your columns to its fields.
  4. Panel 4 of 4.

    Good to know

Murphy says: Each system writes its own way. Most create new records. NetSuite matches on the External ID you map, so a re-run updates instead of duplicating. Odoo lets you choose. Sage 200 is read only.
