Documents · Lesson 2 of 4

Read PDFs and scans

Pull the invoice number, date, total and more off each PDF or image, with OCR rather than AI.

The comic

  1. Panel 1 of 4.

    What's on it?

Murphy says: A scan is just a picture of words. Add a step and choose “Read from the document”: Morph reads each PDF or image with OCR (optical character recognition: turning a picture of text into text). No AI involved.
  2. Panel 2 of 4.
Murphy says: Say “What are these documents?”: an invoice or bill, an expense receipt, a purchase order, a bank statement and more. Then tick “What to find”.
  3. Panel 3 of 4.
Murphy says: “Try it on a file” shows “The text that was read” and what was found, before you add the step. The test file is removed straight away.
  4. Panel 4 of 4.

    Good to know

Murphy says: Each plan includes pages read a month. “Usage” shows the count, under “Document pages read this month”.

Reading works on the files you upload or that arrive by SFTP. It isn't offered on files taken from a connected system's records.

Try it in Morph

  3. Pick the kind of document, tick “What to find”, and “Try it on a file”.

You'll be asked to sign in first. The free plan needs no card.

Quick check

2 quick questions. No marks, no pressure: pick an answer and Murphy will tell you how you did.

1. Does “Read from the document” use AI?
2. Where can you see how many pages you've read this month?
