Connecting systems · Lesson 5 of 5

Before you send: readiness checks

See what a system needs before you write to it, test your rows without sending anything, then send one real record.

The comic

  1. Panel 1 of 4.

    Before the big send

Murphy says: Writing to a system? The output shows “Needed to run”: the fields the system insists on, and how many you've set.
  2. Panel 2 of 4.
Murphy says: Fill a gap right there: “Choose column”, or set it to always be one value. “Probably needed” lists fields the system may fill in itself.
  3. Panel 3 of 4.
Murphy says: “Dry run” checks your sample rows against the system. “Check all rows” reads the whole source, up to 5,000 rows. Neither sends anything.
  4. Panel 4 of 4.
Murphy says: “Send one record” creates one real record, exactly as a run would, and it stays there. If the system refuses a field, Morph adds it to “Needed to run”.

None of these checks is required before you activate a rule. They just save you surprises.

Try it in Morph

  1. Open a rule whose “Destination” is a system, such as Xero.
  2. Find “Needed to run” on the output and fill any gaps.
  3. Try “Dry run”, then “Send one record” when you're ready.

You'll be asked to sign in first. The free plan needs no card.

Quick check

2 quick questions. No marks, no pressure: pick an answer and Murphy will tell you how you did.

1. Which check sends a real record to the system?
2. What does “Needed to run” list?
